Chooks like to have whole grain in their diet because its an excellent source of digestible energy providing rich concentrations of starch. It also promotes an active gizzard, the gizzard is an important part of the chooks stomach system. It is designed to grind-up hard feeds like seed and grain. Maize is also a staple food for most hook-beaked birds, including all types of poultry, pigeons, and aviary birds.
